Don’t go for the brand, go for the specifications. Get at least 512 ram and a reasonable hard drive depending what you are likely to store on it. Do you want to watch dvds? Work out the specs you require and make your purchase by fulfilling those and not by buying a label.

Should have 20 to 30 gig hard drive and 256 ram min.

hmm i would just buy a new Acer laptop. Cheap, reliable, and good enough for internet shopping. check out newegg.com for some pretty good proces on em ($450-650). Ebay is always a place to get used ones. Also, most major retailers like fry’s, newegg, etc have refurbished stuff.
toshiba,acer,ibm,dell,hp too many to name. For simple Inet shopping, heck a webTV is even good. The best one is the FreePC, but Americans arent allowed to have those.
Dell because it has good warranty options and the best support
apple’s ibook(new version). its perfect but its not the cheapest even used.
