Bought an older laptop,Dell latitude cpx, power supply not included but i had one. So i plugged in, and when windows 2000 professional started up it showed "administrator" as user & asked for a password. Which of course i don’t have. Called the girl I bought it from and she said she didn’t have a password either as she bought it off ebay w/ no battery / power supply. She said something about removing some kind of battery looking thing to reset it? Is there any way that I will be able to by-pass the password? reset it? or something? and if not will i be able to use this thing at all? or can i / will i HAVE to install a new version of windows or what?
I should have been more specific but honestly didn’t know the difference between the two… system pass word and windows password.
anyways, the password i am being prompted for and don’t have is for windows 2000 professional.
There’s a sticker on the bottom of aptop that says"certificate of authenticity" and has a product key, but I don’t know wat the password is.

yeah, if you’re lucky, you can press F8 at bootup and get into safe mode, login as administrator and then remove the password on the other account. If that fails to work, go get this thing and read the instructions, it works in all cases
Ya I don’t think that will work. From what you are referring to is the Operating system password. I heard of some software or hardware that can crack for I forget what.
that battery looking thing she was talking about was a CMOS battery which refers to the boot up password. Which is inside the laptop on the motherboard. You may need a computer tech to get as a laptop is difficult to open and put back together.
Power it up and start hitting F2 key (maybe F8 F10 or F12 depending on system)
This will take you into BIOS screen. Go over to password.. select off.
Exit and save settings.
You can try enter in safe mode, by press the key F8 in star up, if you are lucky do not have password in the admin screen, if your not get you a linux password recovery from the web, burned into a cd and your are to go, but if it is in the motherboard you has to open the machine, and there you have a 3vol battery lithium if you disconnect for 5 minutes, it will reset the bios to their original settings.
