I am buying the laptop for business use (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), lots of travel, as well as pleasure (digital photos, music, internet surfing). I travel about 20 weeks a year.
I want to buy a Dell vostro A860 laptop with 15.6" screen, Dual Core 2.0 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM and a 160 GB HDD. . Can it be downgraded to WinXP or must I use Vista?
I have a Dell Inspiron that needs a new battery, only I have no idea where to get one (there’s no dell shop near me) or how much it should cost.
Also, do they differ in battery life? I.E, my current one used to last four hours, but is there any way I can buy one that lasts longer or is that more to do with the make?
I haven’t had this new battery for my laptop very long, about 7 months tops and it already sucks. I just unplugged my laptop from the charger and the battery life says I have 48 minutes left, when earlier it use to reach 2 hours. I just bought a used Dell laptop with windows XP, don’t know much about computers ok? I was told that when I insert a CD on the laptop that a window will open up but no window appears, I clicked on PLAY and still nothing…. HELP!!
Hello, I’m visiting Sweden and I have a XP Dell Laptop which I can’t use. I bought a converter and plugged it in, but my adaptor doesn’t work so I can charge it. I’ll be off to Uni at the end of Sept and would like to buy a laptop and take with me. After some research, I’ve decided on a Studio 15 (1555).
Does anyone (or even better somebody who works as Dell Sales Rep or used to) know when it’s a best time to buy? I read somewhere on the net that August/Sept is a pretty good time anyway coz they have these ‘back to school’ deals. Otherwise, I don’t really mind waiting until Oct/Nov if I have to. With Dell though, there seem to be always a ‘sale’ of some sort going…..
Do Dell sales reps have targets to meet? Are they daily or weekly monthly ones? When I call to get a quote with my desired specs, is that the best/fixed price? Do I have room to barter? And will they be more ‘keen’ to do so towards the end of their target dates?
Being a student my budget’s kind of tight so I’d appreciate some help to stretch my pennies as far as possible.

The LaserJet printer was bought used. The laptop is stand-alone. No local network at all.
Currently accessing internet via DSL modem attached to a LinkSys wireless router.
This LaserJet (8150) has a built in network card (JetDirect) with an ethernet port.
I’m wondering if it might be possible to take an ethernet cable straight from the back of the wireless router to this port on the printer and then print wirelessly without getting a wireless print server.
Any thoughts?

I have been accepted to USMA and enter in ’08. I’m fairly certain they issue Dell laptops to each cadet, but I am thinking about buying a laptop for personal use before I go (I am not taking this one to USMA!) but if I get one now, I might as well buy one that I will have for the next few years.
Can anyone tell me the EXACT make and model of the laptops used by the cadets at West Point, and if they should be the same for the 2008/2009 school year.
