I’m planning to buy a new laptop since our old one’s pretty slow now. I’m going to use the new one basically to do papers, studying, and research. But I’m also active in art and also planning to buy a new tablet and probably photoshop. And I’ll also use the laptop for browsing the web.

So which laptop is better for school studies, art, and some hobbies?

I did some research on the mac, and heard that its good. I’ve been using a PC for a long time. The only time I’ve actually used a mac is in libraries or such, but the mac seems promising for someone like me. So, mac or PC?

I have been using Windows since the early 90′s and have never used a Mac. I have an HP desktop and plan on still using it. I also want to buy a laptop because I have Wifi throughout my house and I don’t always feel like sitting at a desk. A friend of mine recently switched to Mac and can’t say enough good things about it. I just recently invested in an ipod touch. I downloaded itunes onto my PC and it’s been working fine for me as far as loading stuff into my ipod. I basically plan on using the laptop mainly to play the MMO City of Heroes (which now has a version for Apple), to surf the web, manage my music and photos, play around in photoshop elements, and to a lesser extent edit home movies and the like from my camcorder. Given that these are the main and probably only reasons I would be using the laptop, is it worth spending the extra to get the Mac book or should I stick to an HP laptop with Windows?

And please refrain from the whole Mac vs. PC flame wars. Ideally I’d like to hear from people who have used both systems.

Ok, so my current computer is dying on me, and I swore that the next computer I would get would be a Mac, because I’m sick and tired of windows.

Right now I use my iPod with my windows laptop, so if I go out and buy a Mac, I can restore it and then use it to sync with that, right?

I would like to buy a used mac, but i would like to get one that can be pretty fast….i don’t anything about apple laptops.

A mean, should i look for the Specs as a would in windows XP or Vista? i have never had or used a Mac before that’s why i am asking.

I use Photoshop, MS Office, database softwares like Filemaker, Pagemaker, some home video editing, some games (not the heavy ones like some diehard gamers do), surf the internet for about 6-8 hours, download pictures, music and video. So which should I buy a Mac or a PC; a desktop or a laptop? WHY?

I have other considerations besides the OS (I’ve had experience with both Mac OS and Windows) like hardware durability, compatibility with external devices like handycam, digital camera, mp3 players, etc.

Please suggest a specific brand and model.

I’m looking to buy a cheap laptop computer, but I’ve used Macs all my life. Are there any similar computers that are cheaper? I hate to admit it, but I have a stereotype against Windows after the school computers from 2003. If there is a newer Windows and it’s better than the oldies, but still cheaper than a Mac, feel free to let me know. Thanks!

I recently bought new laptop from Dell and currently we have office network named ‘officenetwork’ runs on wireless router. We have four PC’s connected to this network. One is connected via wire, and rest three has wireless network.

Our wireless network is using MAC address filter to allow only known computers in area to connect with it. Our wireless router is connected with office server where all our daily working files are stored. So with wireless network ‘officenetwork’ we can access internet as well as can work with files.

But now problem here is that I do have MAC address of new laptop, but don’t know how to add it to wireless router to allow new laptop to connect it. I am trying to enter new laptops MAC address with currently connected PC’s to network, but no luck since last two days.

When I enter the IP address 192.168.2.1 in connected computers I can access my server, but do you have any idea how can i get access directly to my router which is connected to server.
So I can enter my new laptop’s MAC address and get connected with ‘officenetwork’.

One more thing, I can access my networks settings on server, but there is no option to add MAC address.

When I go to System option on my server there it says ‘to run system commands’. So does anyone know what system command can I run to add mac address. The system command application doesn’t looks like MS-DOS, it says that command will run as root user, so I think it’s Linux version of MS-DOS.

Yes I also know the MAC address of the wireless router, incase if you know that I can do anything with it.

Can anybody help me on this please.

But sorry for this long detail of my question, I couldn’t find any shorter way to explain it.

I am sorry. The new router is provided by my server company, and it’s nameless, there is no make model number written on it.

I have had my HP Pavilion laptop for about a year now and its really slow and has alot of viruses. So i might get a mac. But i mostly want to know if the mac is good cause i am going to buy one for my grandmas birthday. She wants to use it to see her family on msn.

Can you please answer these questions:

My freind told me that viruses dont even exist in a mac is that true?
What are the good and bad things about a mac?
Do you think i might have any difficulties with it?
Is it easy to use?
About how much does it cost?

Please dont tell me i shouldnt buy it because my hp laptop is still good or something….just answer the questions please.

I have been a PC user all my life but since my laptop is coming to the end of its days, I have recently been thinking about getting a Mac but i heard that the transition is tricky and hard. So what do ya’ll think? Mac or stick with PC and if PC, what laptop should I get? I use the internet a lot, mostly for school and friends. I have movies on my laptop and songs as well.

I just bought a second Mac laptop and want to copy big files (pictures, music, videos) from one to the other. I have a 4 port router and have connected them both to the internet but one can not see the other.

And, I also want to know how to make one Mac laptop appear as a ‘drive’ to the other.

Is there a security risk using either method?

I have a Dell desktop at home. I wanted my laptop to be a Mac. I do not game, I would only use it for internet browsing, music and photos/home movies most importantly school, which means I need Microsoft word, and powerpoint and Adobe to be compatible. Also will the data on my desktop be able to be transferred to the Macbook? Thanks!

Ok its time i bought a new laptop but i hate vista and have never used a mac i was thinking about buying a windows that is running vista then changing to xp ( My os of choice ) but im not sure now i have been looking at the macs they do look nice could anyone tell me the best bits of the mac please ( And to all you vista fans i have seen the bad bits and could not work with them )
Ok i just went down to the place i buy PC stuff and got myself a new mac book pro

I did look at windows but they all run vista and i cant stand that os im setting up my mac now but build quality looks very good.

I need a new laptop I have worn mine out and it is a P.C. all of my 4 computers are P.C.’s however I feel that I need to move onto mac’s so I was just wondering what you would suggest for me to buy for school? I use my laptop a lot so I need something that won’t let me down.

I use mostly AutoDesk 07 Viz, 3D max, Auto CAD 07 and PhotoShop. Also, what GHZ and RAM should be a good performence wise to use such programs!
And is Virtual PC on a Mac a good idea?

I know I want a Mac laptop, but I also kind of want a desktop. I have enough money that I can either buy a current generation MacBook Pro, or a last-gen (probably g4) powerbook and a current gen. either imac or mac pro. What do you think I should buy? I don’t really need a lot of power in a laptop, unless I’m going to be using it as a desktop, which I would be if I only get a MacBook Pro and nothing else. Otherwise, I could just buy a powerful desktop and a slower, older laptop. What do you think I should do?

I’ve got a Japanese OS Toshiba 2002 laptop and a 2006 Sony vaio desktop but confused with what I should buy next-a mac or vista pc?Don’t have much chance to really use a mac that’s why I’m considering it. Had the chance to use a vista pc with my roommate coz just got 1.
Primary use? Entertainment! Buying things I want while I can still splurge on it. Got enough savings/investments so this is an amount I can spend.
I’ve been checking on this topic for a month or so.

Im thinking about getting a mac but i do not want to buy it if i cannot use my mac laptop with my cable connection that i have only used with pcs, it is standard internet connection from comcast can i use the same connection? if not can i use a wireless connection the i have only used with pc’s???

do i need any special adapters or routers???
