Does anyone know if there is a site for cheap laptops? I want to buy a good one-but cheap. I am going on vacation soon and i want to keep in touch with everyone, be able to write my stories, charge my ipod, and download my photos, but i cant find a good but cheap laptop. any ideas?

Having worked in repairing laptops in the past, a "cheap" laptop is a requently repaired and troublesome laptop. If you are looking for a good laptop for travel, I would suggest the lowest-ended Apple MacBook 13inch white $1099, or if you are a PC (Windows) person then I would suggest either the Dell InspironXPS M1210′s lowest configuration $999 or HP Pavilion dv9000z $899. The Dell and the Apple have smaller LCD screens, but have longer battery life and lighter weights. The Apple is more expensive, but it comes with easy to use software out of the box without having to upgrade later. I would make a comparison of these three systems. If you already own WindowsXP, you can use "bootcamp" from Apple to make a MacBook run Windows like a PC, but Apple’s iLife suite does a fine job for MySpace, Facebook and personal website publishing. The Dell and HP systems costs less at first, but you will have to invest in buying Corel, Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe software before your trip to add to these systems to enable some web publishing functions. Windows Vista does have some basic photo enhancing features though.
I would try e-bay. They always have great deals on them. I got mine there and was very satisfied with the transaction and the product.
I saw some on ebay. But, as always, price shop and use the the 50% rule. Also, the batteries on used ones usually are fried and not guaranteed. Otherwise plan on spending another hundred besides the price you pay.
I saw a brand new laptop at walmart for 499.
One on the best buy ad this week goes for 450.00.

Ebay would be the best for used cheaper laptops. If all you want is internet/email/word processing and can hold out, IBM is going to be releasing a 100 dollar laptop in the future. I heard by next year. But who knows, most of the time lines usually get pushed back.
