Easiest way to transfer Address Book from Desktop to Laptop?
Hello, I've got a Dell Dimension 2350 desktop and just bought a used Dell C640 laptop off eBay. I don't know a whole lot about either one of them!LOL Could someone tell me the EASY way to get my addy book onto the "new" laptop? Please don't use any "fancy" tech terms:) If a cable is or could be involved to hook them up together, please specify what type. One similar question I read, mentioned emailing it to myself?? Thanks in Advance!

Easy..open the old address book, go to "file", then EXPORT (wab)..save it on a floppy, thumbdrive, whatever. Then , on the new PC, open address book again, under "file ", select: IMPORT -wab…then go to the file you have saved, and IMPORT….thats it!
I tried emailing it to myself. desktop had windows millennium and new laptop has windows XP so I could not get it to work but I could see it and made it smaller on my desktop and made my laptop address box small on desktop at the same time and typed them in one at a time. Sorry wish I had had a better answer.
you could use a crossover cable "thats a usb cable with both ends being male connections, or go to tornado.com and take a look at this gizmo. the cable about twenty dollars at walmart, but you need some tech help I;m not sure of. the other simple to use transfer of any and all files.
Try using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Under Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools. On your desktop choose old computer, both files and settings, and check the box that says let me select custom list of files. Uncheck/remove everything you don’t want to copy over. You can store it on a usb flash drive, or on your desktop and transfer across a network or crossover cable later. Then, run the wizard on the laptop, selecting new computer, and point to the location where you stored the output.
