How can I convince my mom to allow me to buy an Apple laptop?

I really want a white MacBook for I think ,299. My mom says no because we are going to be buying a house within the next 6 months. She has a great reason to say no, but I still really NEED the laptop. I have an iMac, but I really need an Apple laptop so I can use it while I travel, and when I go to my friend’s homes for school projects that need a computer involved, so then I can have it on my own laptop. It is also great for anykind of traveling. It could even help with my education. Say I am out of town for a weekend, even if it is just a long drive. I can type it easily on the car or plane. There would be no hassle, and I would easily be able to blue-tooth documents and such from my iMac to my MacBook. How can I convince her to buy if for me? I can even pitch in. I get a week as an allowance, but have to pay for clothes etc. Do you think I can convince for Christmas? I just want the laptop, Apple Waranty, and mouse for it.

$50 a WEEK for an allowance?? That is crazy – you’re already lucky there…
If you really want one, tell her you’ll get a job and earn half. Then get a job and earn half. Don’t do the "I’ll pay you back once I get a job" bit, that is annoying. Put up the offer, get a job, and actually pay for half.
You could buy a great laptop new for under $700. Macs are overrated anyway. So if you cut the cost in half by not wasting your money on a MAC, and then OFFER to pay for half – get a good part time job and you can be playing on your new laptop within a month!
I wouldn’t convince her. Working on Mac laptops is a nightmare. They are the most overengineered machines ever built. A standard PC laptop is far easier to work on and parts are easier to get. Just get a Mac mini and a 17" LCD. It’s cheaper, you get a bigger screen, and everything but the monitor will fit in a backpack.
maybe ur mom has a plan for xmas she may have that laptop you want on her xmas list have you stop to think about that be nice to ur mom do things in da home for her show her that you really care for her and read a book on that laptop you want then leave the book open where ur mom can find it then ur mom will take care of the rest
Your mom is trying to get a decent roof over your head. You already have an iMac. Take care of it so that it will last (some people think that if what they have gets broken somehow, it’ll have to be replaced… doesn’t work on a lot of moms). If you’re old enough, start looking for an afterschool job, babysit, or start doing odd jobs in the neighborhood for cash. Save it up, and buy it yourself.
The economy is hard right now, and you should ultimately be glad for what you have. If you’re young, you really don’t travel enough to necessitate a super high tech laptop. Your friends can email stuff to you. Unless you’re running a business and travel all over all the time, you don’t really need it. Lay off your mom, and be excited about the house.
From the sounds of it, you are not yet supporting yourself, so I can understand your mother not wanting to dish out $1300 + for a computer. It sounds like she’s also purchased you a vehicle and is probably paying insurance. Yes, laptops can make life easier, but you can make do without them as well. I don’t think that not having a laptop is going to affect your grade adversly. It’s just a matter of you being mature enough to schedule your time wisely. I made it though college without a laptop, as did all of my friends. Some didn’t even have desktops of their own. Laptops are only essential for business persons or those in IT fields, etc. A teenager/college kid, whatever you may be, will be just fine without one.
From the sound of it, you need to take a step back and analyze your priorities. You really want another computer, but you still need to spend your money on clothes? I think you are being unreasonable with your mother and a bit selfish. Your mother is about to make a huge financial committment, and does need you to nickel and dime her. I think she’s generous to give you $200/month for allowance. I never got that much.
You don’t NEED the laptop, you WANT the laptop. There is a HUGE difference.
