I am looking to buy a mac laptop or desk top for music production. What type? and software should i purchase?

I am a little new to the digital music world- i dont even own an i pod. but i am a musician and im used to analog recording. I am looking for a product thats user friendly and semi- affordable- Is mac my best choice for music production?

If you are an artist I would suggest getting a MacBook Pro 15". (http://www.macvortex.com has some good deals on MacBooks) We have a small graphic design shop and use Mac’s in the office as well at home. My partner is playing in a band and does all of his recording, editing and mixing on a MacBook and the quality is very good. There is some good software available. Apple iLife ’08 is pretty much a must have. It comes with iPhoto, iWeb, GarageBand, iDVD and iWeb. GarageBand will get you started with recording and mixing your songs. If you want to go a bit more PRO I would suggest Apple Logic Express 8 or Apple Logic Studio
