I want to buy a laptop to use my music software, any ideas ?

I want to buy a laptop with a firewire port to plug in an M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard and my midi guitar. I want to use it with music software like Cubase, Sibelius etc…Apple laptops are good but very expensive so they’re out. I’d like to know if there’s anyone out there who’s using other brand laptops for music and can advise me on what laptop is compatible with external soundcards like M-Audio Firewire 410 and music software. Would be very grateful if someone can help out. Thanks.
