heres the description of each:
Microsoft Office.
With its streamlined user interface, hundreds of new themes and templates, and better compatibility with Windows-based friends and colleagues, Office 2008 for Mac helps you quickly create high-quality documents you can be proud of. Either the Home and Student Edition or Standard can be preinstalled on your new Mac so you can start creating documents, presentations, and spreadsheets right away.
iWork ’09.iWork ’09 gives you everything you need to make impressive documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in minutes. Writing and page layout are even easier using Pages ’09. Numbers ’09 gives you innovative ways to create spreadsheets. You’ll captivate your audience with sophisticated presentations using Keynote ’09. iWork will be preinstalled on your Mac, so you’ll have all three productivity applications available for immediate use.

microsoft office as you said is much more simple, but if you take the time to learn iwork it will pay off, i use word for essays but keynote kicks power points a** ( i will spen 2-3 hours on a project and my friends like 4-8 and ill get a better grade just beacuse it looks so great. i would go iwork because pages and word and almost identical, iworks considerably cheaper and keynote rock, also there all compatible with windows and office. go for the 250 gig you wont regret it
The problem with Microsoft Office, at least on Mac OS X, is it isn’t nearly as accessible or easy to use as Microsoft Word is on Windows. You can still do what you normally would, but (based on reviews I’ve read) the Microsoft Office suite isn’t all that great on Mac OS X.
iWork is a wonderful application, and can open and save to Office files in Keynote (powerpoint), Pages (word) and numbers (excel). I’d recommend iWork.
BUT. When you go to the apple store to purchase either, most of their display computers should have both installed. Give them both a try!
And, go with the 250 GB HDD.
