I’m getting a MacBook for college soon. What else do I need to buy for it – software, hardware, etc?

I’m buying an Apple MacBook laptop. I’m planning on using it for schoolwork and music, and possibly for watching movies.
I won’t be using it for gaming or anything much more than writing papers, spending too much time on the internet *wink*, and rocking out to music.
Is there any software/hardware that I need to buy in addition to simply the laptop itself?
I don’t want to get roped into buying things I won’t use or don’t need, so – any advice would be quite welcome.
Thanks so much.

You don’t need any anti-spyware software. That’s just silly. Macs don’t get viruses and spyware.
Actually, a MacBook pretty much comes with everything you need. You might want to get a nice case from the Apple Store or something. A wireless Might Mouse would be good, too. The trackpad works great, but it’s still a trackpad. I prefer a real mouse. I think that pretty much covers it. If you’re going to do a lot of office type stuff, you might want some office software, like Microsoft Office or iWork. Personally, I prefer iWork for word processing. There’s also free software, such as NeoOffice, which is identical to Microsoft Office. There’s tons of free software for Mac. Well, that pretty much sums it up. You’ll love the MacBook. I have a MacBook Pro myself.
something like spyware to keep your computer clean, for sure.
If you are going to be doing a lot of typing in your dorm you might want to consider getting a keyboard.
Either the USB or the slightly more expensive wireless (bluetooth) one might be a good investment, as would a mouse. You can either use a mouse from a PC or get the Mighty Mouse from Apple, which also comes in USB or wireless.
For my MacBook, I picked up the wireless keyboard, but use a bluetooth mouse from Logitech that I just happened to have laying around from one of my PCs. Works great.
