I have had a desktop PC for all my years of computer usage. Always windows 98.
I have played around on an Apple before, but I’m not familiar at all with its software. Is it hard to learn? (im in college)
I am thinking about buying the 9 white apple Macbook laptop. Is this a good computer? Are apple’s reliable, like do they last a long time? and how are they with viruses and stuff like that?
Because my PC is like 8 years old and on its deathbed, i can barely use it beause its so loaded with junk

I have the white macbook and I am in college as well. Just make sure you get iWork 08 installed too, because that has your stuff that you will need for school, like Pages (aka word), Numbers (aka excel), and Keynote (aka powerpoint). They are veryyy great. Mine runs so amazingly! I got it in June of last year, 2008. I wouldn’t trade it for any other computer in the whole entire world. It is very fast, and easy to learn and once you get the hang of it there is so much you can do to customize it. It helps keep me sooo organized! I think you would greatly benefit from buying one.
My tip is: don’t get a Mac. I personally hate them. Well, hate is a strong word, but I severely dislike them. The OS is restrictive and frustrating to use, they have terrible gaming support, and worst of all, they’re retardedly overpriced. For $1000, you’ll get a kick-butt Windows-based laptop, but that same price gets you an entry-level Mac. It’s pretty ridiculous.
To answer your other questions, the software is retardedly easy to use, but VERY restrictive. You’re pretty much confined to default layouts and templates in all of Apple’s software. And if you’re in college, you’re going to need to buy Office 2008 so you can transfer documents with other Windows-based PCs. Windows is the dominant platform on most college campuses (art schools being the primary exception). Apples are as reliable as any descent Windows-based PC. They use the same hardware, after all. Getting a virus on a Mac is more rare than on a Windows-based PC since almost all viruses target Windows.
Anyway, that about sums it up. I’d personally recommend a PC, but that’s me.
Apple’s Macbook is made by Asustek, a leading Taiwanese OEM. Good build quality, generally, but Apple specced very basic parts. You’ll get an okay CPU, but just one gigabyte of RAM, a 120GB hard disk, no DVD writing ability, no card reader, .etc. Basically, it’s slower/older hardware than a $500 Dell or HP. Your choice; can you justify spending twice as much to get OSX instead of Vista?
Like to note that Mercuri laid his criticism on a bit thick. You can still use the free OpenOffice app for word processing, and Macintosh laptops are VERY common at most liberal arts schools. You’ll have no issues with support or software unless you have specialized needs. Main problem with Apple is that they just want so much more cash for the same computer hardware.
Well macs are amazing i would go with the pro version if i were u.
