I’m extremely certain that I’ll buy a mac book pro but I need some good advices.
I’m a graphic designer and I do heaps of photoshopping, flash, illustrating etc and I’m planning to buy a laptop that I can take with me. I use mac at work and at university but I’m using a toshiba laptop at home at the moment which I hate now. It fails me badly….
I use mac all the time for designing at work+ uni but I heard from my friends who owns macs that webcam doesnt work, their tablets doesnt work, msn doesnt work…heaps of stuff doesnt work..
Before I buy a mac I want to know if there is other good laptops that I could buy instead of a mac.
I have to give all my details to my family so they can buy it for me and I’m also wondering what sort of programs are recommended for me to buy. I need a list ready in a few days..
thanks

Buy the Mac book Pro, it’s the only way to go, If you play games alot on the computer buy a PC, the nice thing is you can run window and OSX on a Mac using Fusion or Boot camp. Good luck

Graphic designer=Mac Book Pro….end of discussion.
Your friends are very misinformed. The MSN messenger application doesn’t work very well in Mac OS X, but you can just use Adium for MSN (and everything else). The iMac and everything in the Macbook line (Macbook/Pro/Air) all come with a built-in iSight camera, which takes pictures, records video, and works as a webcam. There are plenty of tablet pads that work with OS X (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/mac_accessories/mice_keyboards?n=specialty_tablets&mco=MTQ1MjY&s=topSellers ), and a company called Axiotron sells Macbooks that have been reconfigured into tablet laptops called Modbooks (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/modbook ).
As for applications, the entire Adobe CS3 pack is available for OS X, so you don’t need to worry about that. Plus, you can dual-boot OS X and Windows using Boot Camp or run Windows inside of OS X using Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, Virtualbox, etc. So on the off chance you do happen to need to use an application that isn’t available in OS X or doesn’t have an OS X equivalent, you can just run it in Windows.
If you want to see what software is available for OS X, check out http://www.pure-mac.com/ It’s basically a list of every application you could ever need for your Mac. If you want some free apps, check out http://www.opensourcemac.org
Don’t know what you friends are doing but MacBook Pros are the top rated laptop, highest battery life, best tech support, etc. I have a MacBook, my son in-law has a MacBook Pro, we have never had the webcams not work. My daughter is a professional illustrator designer, she has no problems with her Mac or tablet. As to msn, why would anyone use that? iChat works with AIM & most chat programs and works flawlessly. We all use Photoshop etc., and have no problems on any of our Macs (MacBooks, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, iMac, etc.) Stick with a MacBook Pro, if you are worried about something breaking or not working, get the extended warranty.
Get a MacBook Pro, no doubt about it.
If you had some details about the "heaps of stuff" that don’t work, I’m sure we could address them all individually. But honestly, there’s nothing you can’t do with a Mac. You just might have to do some things differently. The biggest problem you’ll likely run into are services that use Windows only copy protection for some reason. Mostly commecial video sites. The only one that’s ever really bugged me is Netflix watch it now, but they claim that Mac friendly DRM is in the works.
You should get a PC – you can get a program for nearly everything on them!
if you just complete a few quick tasks on this site they’ll send you a sony laptop, completely free of charge!!
