Need to buy a laptop, Apple or PC?

Ok, I’ve never owned a computer, but have used PCs more than Macs. I work fine with both, though I feel more comfortable with PC because I’ve used it more. Now I just started a new job and am going back to school. I’ll use it mostly for word processing, net surfing (research and music) and sound editing (mostly spoken word/interviews). I’ll probably buy Pro-tools in the near future (I use it at work on a PC). Which should I go for, what specs, and why? Thanks!

id go pc
youll need a descent size hard drive if youll be recording alot of interviews and downloading alot of music. i wouldnt go less than 80gb. personally i would go with like 120gb. youll need a minimum of 512mbRAM now thats minimum i recommend 1gb if you want a smoothe ride. for the processor id keep it above 2.5ghz if you plan on keeping this computer for sometime.
other than that i would make sure you get a cd rom and a dvd rom. they sell combo drives now you can get an all in one burner.
what ?
Apple Macbook. It’s just a better computer than just about any PC you’ll get. Alienware is great for PCs, but super-expensive.
if you really feel comfortable for a PC, then go for it!
I prefer a PC. It’s more common; there are more softwares & programs for a PC than a mac, etc.
PC offers more apple is catching up but still not there yet…
If money is no object to you, buy a mac with the intel chip in it because you can have both the XP and MacOS operating systems in it.
Well, considering that you can use Boot Camp to run Windows on a Mac, I would get a Mac, since you’re just going to be word processing and surfind the net.
Macs – Pros: Run faster, dont have virus, and dont crash
Macs – Cons: Too much money, not all programs run on Mac
Windows – Pros: Less money, work great. a lot of programs for Windows XP
Cons: Windows XP can get a little tricky with some things…
Best bet would be Windows.
ps: AlienWare is for GAMING… thats what they are mostly used for.
I recommend PC because is more powerful and there are more applications available for PC’s
DO NOT BUY AN AVERATEC!!!!!! i bought one and it has heating problems and i’ve owned it for a year and i’ve had to reformat it 4 times already. my cousin in an Apple expert and there some of the best computers ever cause they dont get virus’
Get a PC (for better performance for the price) with:
Core Duo CPU (any one will be fine, dual core on a laptop)
512MB of RAM, preferably 1GB (1024MB) (will speed up the entire computer by not having to use the hard drive for extra memory)
60GB HDD, preferably 80-120GB, preferably 7200RPM (7200RPM is the fastest laptop HDD speed, and above 60GB you should have enough space for everything you need)
If you get those then you should be fine for a while.
Hope this helps.
