Recommendation needed on which laptop to buy?
Popular Searches: used laptops|used Alienware laptops| used Apple laptops| used Mac laptops| Used Dell Laptops
Hi, everyone. I am planning to purchase new laptop in the next few days or so and I thought it would be wise to hear from experts on which laptop to buy.
It will be my first laptop I will purchase as I have used desktop all my life. The laptop will be used for primarily writing reports/papers, researching/surfing online, chatting, listening to music, and watching movies. It will NOT be used for playing games.
So far after discussion with people I know, I am leaning toward Dell laptop. It is the most recognized laptop brand and a lot of people use it including my family. Someone suggested IBM laptop but I don’t know much about that one.
I know the final decision is up to me but I would appreciate any insights before I make the hefty investment. Could you recommend any good laptops that would be suitable for person like me?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

firstly, the basis of my selection was a 14.1" trulife widescreen display > just perfect, any bigger & it looses out on portability !
i’ve been a lil bit lavish in my configuration & selected a top notch t7200 processor > being the heart of the machine, a great one does a good job plus something in hand to spare for later !

dell,hp , and toshiba are all good.
Get a macbook. Do not get a dell laptop because they will fail you in a month.
check out the sony vaio for good quality or an acer if you dont want to spend alot
You did’nt indicate what your budget is….but you can get a perfectly good laptop for under $600.00.
The IBM is actually now Lenovo which does have an excellent reputation as a laptop…but they would run more than 600. A number of Dell and HP/Compaq units would also fit the bill. Get 1gb of memory and a 60 or 80 gb hard drive, along with a cd/dvd combo drive. Check Techbargains.com for some good deals.
dell and hp are cheap, and so is there help areas. ibm is a little better. and it depends on if you want vista or xp on it for the hardware and software installed. get something that is wireless and two hard drives, lots of ram two gigs. other wise yer gonna pay about $1200, but later this month and early next, stores will be unloading there xp machines, as vista comes out in late jan.
I strongly suggest you avoid Dell. Parts for a Dell notebook (or any Dell) can only be bought through them, which means they’re more expensive. Should something fail on your computer it would be cheaper to fix if it was a different brand.
I recommend the MacBook. It’s a great value and if you needed to you could install and run XP or Vista alongside OS X. If you get a PC laptop you can’t run OS X.
I would suggest that you look into getting an apple macbook. The advantage of apple is security – you don’t have to worry about spyware and viruses. Which eliminates the need for you to buy an anti-virus. Many people believe that macs aren’t compatible with windows, but with the Intel macs, you can use windows with an apple computer — you have to purchase a complete copy of windows, and you are susceptible to all the security threats of any windows computer. I also suggest looking online for laptop reviews, laptop magazine offers insight to laptops in their articles. I understand that a laptop is a valuable purchase, I recently bought myself a laptop. i decided to switch because security is an important issue for me, and after much though I decided to apple. I hope that I have helped you – but your best thing to do is to research to insure that you are making an investment that won’t be regretted.
i have a dell now, but i am not as happy with it as my old toshiba. my toshiba tecra even though it is outdated now, still runs like new, never once had a problem with it. It was EXTREMELY rugged.
