Should I buy a Mac laptop if I have a PC desktop?

I’m curious about Macs and I want the laptop to use at work, where my computer and the whole network are lousy. I’m concerned about compatibility, file sharing, etc.

I can tell ya from experience that macs are good machines. They’re very compatible with PCs in terms of networking (They can easily share files, printers, and internet connections with PCs). I’ve had Macs before (especially the G3s) and they get along great with my other PCs in the house. With OS/X, it’s as easy as plugging in the network cable. The OS pretty much does the rest (With a Mac, you can see all of the other computers on your network, PCs included just like you can in Windows). I got a mac because of OS/X and I have to say I was very impressed.
Macs are really compatible right now. Especially when you could just boot into windows from the mac laptop if you ever needed anything that OSX couldn’t do. If you want one, go for it. I don’t think you’ll have many issues.
I am considering doing the same thing. File compatibility will depend on the software you use. Should you get .. say Microsoft Office for your Mac you documents with port almost seamlessly. Mp3′s won’t give you a problem. You might run into compatibility issues with video or WMA files and Macs will be running with Quicktime. But as I said before, the basic document files types shouldn’t give you a problem if you use the right software. I’d say go for it if you are curious, I already would have if I had the money.
If your going to buy a mac, consider this. If your going to buy a mac, buy it in october because that is when Mac OS X Leopard is going to come out. It will have new features, a new GUI and Boot Camp so you can boot Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you buy a Mac now, you’ll be disappointed. So for now, use your PC and then in October, buy it.
You won’t be disappointed at all if you buy the Mac now. In fact, the prices of the just recent generation have dropped with the release of the newer versions a couple days ago.
Yes, it will cost to upgrade to Leopard 10.5 in October, but October is almost five months away. I wouldn’t wait.
