I'm going off to college in september and want a laptop. I don't have much money, because most of it will go to college, but I'm willing to spend enough to get a decent laptop. I'm completely lost when it comes to what kind to buy. I'm used to windows, because that's what i've grown up with, but someone told me apple is better. Advice!??

It is now time for me to get a new laptop, as my old Dell is not performing the things, and quickness I need it to. I am looking into buying a Mac laptop, but I know nothing about them. I use my laptops mainly for DVD editing, and creating, music and photo editing. I am looking for something that can burn cds and dvds withen the laptop, and has software that I can create professional like dvds. I am looking to spend anywhere under 0, if possible. As I stated above, I know noting about Apple, and their laptops. Does editing software, Photoshop, Garage Band..etc. come on the laptops? Do you have to buy everything extra? Help! Thanks
Ok, after everyone said the smae thing, I should add that I am looking for a USED mac Laptop...

ok, at the moment I dont own a laptop. But I'm looking for one on eBay! Either an ibook Clamshell, (Just because they're really cute) a PowerBook or a normal iBook G3. But someone told me that you cant work Windows XP on an Apple because they use their own system. But you can install Parallels or Bootcamp. All I need is a loooooooong description of what the difference is and which would be better to get. I also want to know whether it would be a good idea to buy an Apple? AND WHAT IN THE WORLD IS OS X 10.5 Leopard. If someone could answer this in the most polite fashion without telling me how dumb I am for not knowing what OS X 10.5 Leopard is!
Keep in mind that I dont have a limited supply of money and cant really afford a macbook pro seeing that here in Souht Africa, you take the price in America and times it by 7,68. (,000 in America, R15 360 in South Africa)

I have been using Windows since the early 90's and have never used a Mac. I have an HP desktop and plan on still using it. I also want to buy a laptop because I have Wifi throughout my house and I don't always feel like sitting at a desk. A friend of mine recently switched to Mac and can't say enough good things about it. I just recently invested in an ipod touch. I downloaded itunes onto my PC and it's been working fine for me as far as loading stuff into my ipod. I basically plan on using the laptop mainly to play the MMO City of Heroes (which now has a version for Apple), to surf the web, manage my music and photos, play around in photoshop elements, and to a lesser extent edit home movies and the like from my camcorder. Given that these are the main and probably only reasons I would be using the laptop, is it worth spending the extra to get the Mac book or should I stick to an HP laptop with Windows?

And please refrain from the whole Mac vs. PC flame wars. Ideally I'd like to hear from people who have used both systems.

I have a Apple Macbook.not a pro.And i wanted to buy these computer games like Sims 2 or Roller coaster Tycoon which only runs on Windows.is there something you can download to get Windows instead & play these games?& run Window Movie Maker 2& Window softwares?

In addition,iMovie sucks to me.Whenever i make a amv or something.A 3 min. clip takes 2 GB.Which i cant fit in on youtube which my youtube account only allows you to upload 100mb videos. So i i use those online video editors onetruemedia.com that makes me do montages that takes less space.Im too jaded to go there. So is there a software I can download besides iMovie
that you can edit videos & compress videos that doesnt gobble ub your whole memory?
yea.i wished i havent traded my hp windows laptop for a mac
Someone tell me the url for bootcamp also it needs to be free.

I will soon be planning to buy a laptop, but I will be using it for school and college later on. Which is a better and a smarter choice, Apple or Windows?

I usually use the computer for Internet Search, Writing reports, essays, and other school work, etc. I also use it for storing pictures from my Digital Camera and iTunes as well. I currently have Windows XP in my P.C, yet have been having trouble with viruses, the computer freezes and is somewhat slow during the Internet search process. Yet compare to my school, they use Apple instead, and so far I like it.

All ideas and suggestions are truly appreciated. Thanks!

I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on which laptop is the best. I heard apple is a good choice, but i dont know a lot about computers and am kinda confused on the difference between a macbook pro and a macbook. does anyone know which one is better if ima use the laptop for everything.

My daughter is becoming quite a talented graphic artist, drawing cartoons and other storylines both on the computer and by hand. I am thinking about buying her an Apple desktop or laptop because I have heard that Apple is the preferred computer of graphic artists. Any opinions by graphics artists? I think the last time I used an apple was the Apple I back in the late 1970's.
Also, any suggestions on graphics software? Is Dreamweaver a good program for this application? I am a IBM clone expert so I know this is not the best computer for this application. I am looking for specific information and opinions (not simply "I like it or dislike it). Give me specifics. Educate me!

well i was thinking of buying an apple LCD cinema display to plug my macbook aluminum into but i was just wondering if u can plug it into your macbook and plug your ps3 into it and play

another way is to use elgato eye tv but which is better

I am going to University in 2010, and I was planning to buy a Mac laptop! However, Apple has a deal right now where if you buy a Mac laptop, you get a free Ipod touch. So I was wondering... is it worth it to get the laptop now (considering I need time to get used to a Mac over a regular PC)? Or should I not go for the deal, since Apple may come out with new designs/upgrades, and buy a laptop before I go to University?

Also, I am thinking of getting into a Business program for my Undergrad. That being said, I don't really need many fancy programs on my laptop (since I am not doing graphic design or computer programming, etc). I just need a laptop for music, internet, Word, MSN, and that kind of jazz. Which Mac laptop is best for me and my needs? :)
Basically there are three types:
1) Macbook
2) Macbook Pro
3) Macbook Air

Thanks!

I always used a Desktop(Dell Microsoft). I want a laptop for portability- e-mail, wi-fi radio reception. Should I even consider an Apple? What is the best(safest) market to buy used?

i want 2 buy a laptop but i cant decide if i want an apple or microsoft. i use my pc mostly 2 listen 2 music, chat, play games, type school essays. and navigate the internet. for this things what do you think i should go for?

This will be my primary computer used to store music and pictures, play dvds and small business documents. I would like to by a refurbished apple, but I am worried about pc compatibile programs. Any suggestions on what to purchase?

I am looking for a starter Apple for a friend who has never used apple. She is selling her PC and wants to go Mac. With so many considerations wanted to know what is good for around the 0 range on E-bay? Needs to be compatible with Leopard, and we can make ram upgrades later. Is it too risky buying used? She wants something right away. Any good advice would be appreciated.

i may buy a laptop from apple and their website says they give a discount to college students but it wont say how much or what percentage i was wondering if anyone out there has purchased anything from apple and gotten that discount how much did you save and on what product

What to do? My gorlfriend is leaving and taking her MacBookPro with her that we share. I can't afford one of those, or even a MacBook. G4 is a possibility, but I need to save as much money as possible and still have something I can use (I'm a photographer). i don't use Raw files, or anything fancy, or do videos. But I do use iPhoto and iWeb a lot, and understand those need at least a G4 -- especially iWeb, which Apple technicians say won't run at all on a G3. But I've heard rumors tat you can "remove code" on a G3, and wonder if such a thing is worth gettign involved with to save money, if I can get one that's got sufficient processor speed (say 1gHz), and RAM (over 512Mg.).

I'm about to transfer to a college in Northern California and before I transfer I want to get a laptop. I am majoring in digital media arts and I heard that apple is still the better brand for the arts. I received a California Governor's scholarship for a significant amount and would like to apply it towards a laptop. The scholarship's website say that it does allow one to buy equipment, like computers. The main issue is that I live in Southern California and am unsure how to purchase. The bookstore website links to the apple educational store. Who do I make it out to? Should I try a local CSU and see if I can buy it there?
