It's for my nephew. I've heard that it may have viruses, etc. I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to computers, so any advice would help. He's 12, so the budget is around 150ish. Is this realistic??

can any one tell me will it worhwhile to buy used laptop or I should bring a new one.my budget is very low

Hi all,

I'll be off to Uni at the end of Sept and would like to buy a laptop and take with me. After some research, I've decided on a Studio 15 (1555).

Does anyone (or even better somebody who works as Dell Sales Rep or used to) know when it's a best time to buy? I read somewhere on the net that August/Sept is a pretty good time anyway coz they have these 'back to school' deals. Otherwise, I don't really mind waiting until Oct/Nov if I have to. With Dell though, there seem to be always a 'sale' of some sort going.....

Do Dell sales reps have targets to meet? Are they daily or weekly monthly ones? When I call to get a quote with my desired specs, is that the best/fixed price? Do I have room to barter? And will they be more 'keen' to do so towards the end of their target dates?

Being a student my budget's kind of tight so I'd appreciate some help to stretch my pennies as far as possible.

Thank you in advance.

I'm going to go to graphic arts, computer arts, and maybe a side of game creation but i have never bought a laptop in my life. My friend has been ranting how bad macs are and i kinda believe him. They seem to pass my budget of 2000 and all they can do is computer arts, i would have to buy vista separate for a extra 300 added to the price of 3200 of the mac which scares me if i have to get it. If i get a credit card and not get vista i wouldn't be able to play any of my games or programs i have, but it runs photoshop a lot smoother then my friends pc and it looks nice, i was looking at a gaming computer as a alternative from other companies but my other friend who dose graphics design says I'm going to need one if i want to continue it into a career and it would be difficult just using a pc; she advises both mac laptop and pc desktop. Is their a cheaper alternative or should i just screw it and use the credit card?
I heard of mac having no virus problems but my pc has never had a virus problem before so im not concerned about that.

My wife and I are considering the purchase of a laptop Mac, but have not the budget to get a new one. I've found some apparently nice ones in used but (nearly) new condition. Thing is, can we buy an used computer without getting ripped off, how and where?

Right out of college I bought a brand new car. I had my thrill but I'll never do it again because cars depreciate so much in the first few years. Last year I bought a 3-year old Land Cruiser for about K (which sold for K new). I love it. Anyway, is it a smart idea to buy a used laptop? I have a desktop computer (HP Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz, 512 RAM) that works fine and I actually like the speed better than an HP Compaq NC6000 laptop which I sometimes use (and all I know about that baby is it has an M processor). Anyway, I want to add a used laptop to help me do business when I travel and mostly for surfing. I've got a budget of about 0 but I figure I'll probably have to bump that up to 0 or 0 to get something that's okay. Don't need a whole lot of storage for files. Do want built-in wifi capability. I'm a big ebay shopper too. What can I buy? Is my budget too low? What minimum specs should I look for considering my needs? What's your favorite beer?

I'm new to Abu Dhabi, and I wanted to know where I can buy a used laptop. I really don't know where to look, and my budget is very limited at the time being.

I need a notebook for basic college work and internet use. I will also store pics and music (but not an insane amount). In the summer, I may be traveling abroad w/ it on my back, but not for sure(so weight is a consideration but not a priority). My budget is about 00.
I like a lot of things about Mac and it would be easy to just go the apple store and get it over with. However, I much more familiar w/ using a PC and may find a better deal, since apple never really offers sales the way other brands do. What do you think?
Any reccomendations for me? Thanks!

I am looking for an affordable, quality laptop that will last me 4 years. Please specify the laptop you would recommend and why. Also, I'm on a budget so a laptop under 00 would be nice. Remember, I'm also asking what websites you would recommend to buy quality laptops at a cheaper price. (Much like when you buy furniture from a warehouse) Thank you for your help!
