]]> I’m not buying a laptop quite yet…probably in about 6 months, but I figured I should do my research on them now, so the decision is easy later.

I’ve been using Windows on desktop PCs all my life, so I think I know what to expect from a Dell. However, I know very little about Macs. I know they are becoming very popular these days, largely thanks to their amazing TV commercials, but are the really that much better?

I’ll be using this laptop for university…so I’ll need the functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, etc). What are Mac’s comparable softwares, and are the just as good (or better?). And of course I need reliability…can’t have it suddenly crashing and dying just when I need it.

Also, is OSX hard to get used to for a lifetime Windows user?

I have been accepted to USMA and enter in ’08. I’m fairly certain they issue Dell laptops to each cadet, but I am thinking about buying a laptop for personal use before I go (I am not taking this one to USMA!) but if I get one now, I might as well buy one that I will have for the next few years.

Can anyone tell me the EXACT make and model of the laptops used by the cadets at West Point, and if they should be the same for the 2008/2009 school year.

]]> I’m buying a laptop now. I’m not sure if i should go with a Mac or a standard notebooks. I like the Mac video editing features and the photobooth stuff and how it is not as prone to viruses as other laptops. I need one with a lot of memory, the standard applications like a writing application etc., and something that I can download applications easily on. But are Macs really hard to use? Are applications more geared towards PCs than Macs?
