I used Adobe photoshop and Corel to do some graphic design on a PC in another country, I don't have it anymore, now I want to buy a new computer and software and start learning how to use it with specific goals, A childrens book with my on illustrations (traditional media) scan them and enhance them electronically, I'm thinking on getting the newer g4 mac laptop 17" screen, but Im not sure If I would have to learn all the basics of using a computer don't want to waste time but make it easier for me.

I can't afford a brand new Apple laptop so I want to buy a used one. But I've never owned one before and I want to use it for graphic design and video/music editing for school. So could somebody please help me out with what are the essential components I'll need to do this. IE: Amount of Ram, processor speed, video card etc. Again, I don't need the best of the best. Just a starter Apple. Used, refurbished anything like that. I Can't spend over 1k and would prefer to get by with something half of ,000. But don't know if thats even possible. But I don't need the best. Just something that gets me by. And besides ebay, where would be a good place to look. Also, what programs/software are a must for graphic design/video editing and sound editing.
I WANT AN APPLE. You're not going to dissuade me from getting an Apple. I want an Apple, I'm getting an Apple. So please, help me figure out what I need IN an Apple that best fits my needs.

i'm 17..still in highschool i've chosen a career that i'm highly interested in "Graphic Design" & i kno that i'm gonna need a mac & lets just say i aint tha riches kid on tha block...
will financial aid help me pay for a new or used mac laptop because i need one BADLY FOLKS!...
keep in mind that i'm 17 young black & i live in Fort Pierce, FL....
or is there any other program or something that can help me buy a mac laptop!!!

I am going to University in 2010, and I was planning to buy a Mac laptop! However, Apple has a deal right now where if you buy a Mac laptop, you get a free Ipod touch. So I was wondering... is it worth it to get the laptop now (considering I need time to get used to a Mac over a regular PC)? Or should I not go for the deal, since Apple may come out with new designs/upgrades, and buy a laptop before I go to University?
Also, I am thinking of getting into a Business program for my Undergrad. That being said, I don't really need many fancy programs on my laptop (since I am not doing graphic design or computer programming, etc). I just need a laptop for music, internet, Word, MSN, and that kind of jazz. Which Mac laptop is best for me and my needs? 
Basically there are three types:
1) Macbook
2) Macbook Pro
3) Macbook Air
