I'm looking into buying a laptop for college use. I'm wondering which brand to buy, and it seems that it is down to Dell vs. Toshiba. I'll be using it for college school work, music, and some photo editing. Which would you recommend?

I have been using Windows since the early 90's and have never used a Mac. I have an HP desktop and plan on still using it. I also want to buy a laptop because I have Wifi throughout my house and I don't always feel like sitting at a desk. A friend of mine recently switched to Mac and can't say enough good things about it. I just recently invested in an ipod touch. I downloaded itunes onto my PC and it's been working fine for me as far as loading stuff into my ipod. I basically plan on using the laptop mainly to play the MMO City of Heroes (which now has a version for Apple), to surf the web, manage my music and photos, play around in photoshop elements, and to a lesser extent edit home movies and the like from my camcorder. Given that these are the main and probably only reasons I would be using the laptop, is it worth spending the extra to get the Mac book or should I stick to an HP laptop with Windows?
And please refrain from the whole Mac vs. PC flame wars. Ideally I'd like to hear from people who have used both systems.

I'm headed off to college, so I'm pretty much only going to use it for school. Entertainment wise, I just want it for music. So what would be the better buy? A Sony Vaio is also an option....

I use Photoshop, MS Office, database softwares like Filemaker, Pagemaker, some home video editing, some games (not the heavy ones like some diehard gamers do), surf the internet for about 6-8 hours, download pictures, music and video. So which should I buy a Mac or a PC; a desktop or a laptop? WHY?
I have other considerations besides the OS (I've had experience with both Mac OS and Windows) like hardware durability, compatibility with external devices like handycam, digital camera, mp3 players, etc.
Please suggest a specific brand and model.

I'm planning on buying a new laptop in the next month since mine is dying on me and the panel is even getting cracked (we travelled a lot together). I've been really tempted to just buy a DELL laptop online; I've heard the quality of DELL laptops/computers has improved a lot and can now be fully trusted, is that true?
I'm looking for a laptop that is LIGHT but not too small...what I'll basically do on it is surf the net, store my music, use Word and PowerPoint, so Microsoft Office basically and watch some videos. Any laptop brand with especially good battery life?
I do NOT want an ACER as they heat up oh-so fast.
Thanks!

I'm also wondering what a Notebook is? Is it another name for laptop or is it different. What should I look for if I plan to use it for basic personal and business needs. I won't be using it to watch movies or listen to music although I'm thinking those might be options. Can you tell me what basics I should look for and where to look? What can I expect to pay and how can I know the condition of a used one?

I am wanting to buy a laptop, just for general use such as putting my pictures/music/movies on.. and general functions.
It seems I can get a good laptop from Dell, but I am getting the vibe to get a macbook instead? Any suggestions either way?
Cheers.

Ok, I've never owned a computer, but have used PCs more than Macs. I work fine with both, though I feel more comfortable with PC because I've used it more. Now I just started a new job and am going back to school. I'll use it mostly for word processing, net surfing (research and music) and sound editing (mostly spoken word/interviews). I'll probably buy Pro-tools in the near future (I use it at work on a PC). Which should I go for, what specs, and why? Thanks!

I'm buying an Apple MacBook laptop. I'm planning on using it for schoolwork and music, and possibly for watching movies.
I won't be using it for gaming or anything much more than writing papers, spending too much time on the internet *wink*, and rocking out to music.
Is there any software/hardware that I need to buy in addition to simply the laptop itself?
I don't want to get roped into buying things I won't use or don't need, so - any advice would be quite welcome.
Thanks so much.

I'll only really use it for email and some internet searching. At some point will probably want to download music.

I have a desktop and a big chunky monitor. Everything is running really slow and I think I have a virus. I'm not interested in how to fix the desktop (I've already posted that question on here and nothing worked.) I'm looking to buy a used laptop. I have an external hard drive that I've downloaded music and pictures to. I'm thinking Ebay - My main concern is getting one with Word and Excel - I assumed both came with Windows XP; which is what I'm running on my desktop now. When it says it comes with XP - does that mean it comes with Word and Excel also? What is a good brand and specs to be looking for?

I need a notebook for basic college work and internet use. I will also store pics and music (but not an insane amount). In the summer, I may be traveling abroad w/ it on my back, but not for sure(so weight is a consideration but not a priority). My budget is about 00.
I like a lot of things about Mac and it would be easy to just go the apple store and get it over with. However, I much more familiar w/ using a PC and may find a better deal, since apple never really offers sales the way other brands do. What do you think?
Any reccomendations for me? Thanks!

I just want to be able to edit some photos (not professional) and listen to music and edit some documents. It also needs a DVD player. What should I look for in terms of specs and price? Oh, and wireless is a must! I want to surf the internet at home on my wireless network.
