What changes should I be ready for when switching from Windows to Apple?

I have a Dell laptop computer running Windows XP, and I am thinking of buying an Apple laptop if and when I buy a new computer (probably soon). What are the advantages and disadvantages? I know we will still be using Windows at work, and I frequently transfer files. Also, I have iTunes for Windows now, but I assume it will be a relatively simple matter to transfer/copy the song files, or otherwise "import" them into iTunes from an external hard drive.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks!

There are many advantages to both PC and Mac. I use both, Mac and PC at home, Mac at School and PC at work. Here are some benefits to Mac:
-Few, if any viruses for Mac
-Well designed and implemented hardware
-relatively crash resistant
-easy to use and learn
There are a few drawbacks, not all software for PC is available for Mac, although most major software is. It depends on what file types you are using, but all MS office products like Word, Powerpoint and excel are available for Mac.
Your iTunes transfer will work from a External Hard Drive, just remember that if any of your music is from iTunes Store, you will have to authorize your computer.
The biggest reason why people return Macs, is that they don’t want to learn a new operating system, but it is very similar to windows, everything you can do in PC you can do in Mac, and then there are more built in features.
I Prefer Mac, it is way more stable. I have had my PC and Mac both for the same period of time, In the two years i have had them, i have needed to reinstall windows twice, and never had to reinstall Mac.
go to windows and apple site and see the difference

MacOS is more complicated than Windows XP. It’s better to stick to WinXP. I have answered your Dell Inspiron question also. So, it’s better to change to Windows-based Laptop or Desktop
If you’re real familiar with XP and locating different functions, files, etc., then there is a bit of a learning curve, but don’t let that stop you…
the time you save updating, fixing, re-installing and configuring Windows will be more than worth the trouble.
Apple has some website help for making the transition, so check them out.
To transfer your iTunes library to the mac, copy the iTunes folder from the pc to your Mac HD. Usually… your login > Music folder.
Hold the Option Key and start iTunes. It will ask for the library. Point it to the library you copied from the Pc and voila.. your iTunes is ready to go.
things to note when changing to a Mac:
1. System Preferences = Control Panels
2. file extensions aren’t necessary
3. Installs are typically done by copying the application to the application folder. If you download an app, it will most likely download as a disk image (DMG) file. Look for the click this to install or Grab the install icon and drop it on the Application folder icon in the DMG file.
4. The Dock is your friend. It’s similar to the Start bar but you see all the icons. You can modify its properties to suit your needs. When you start an app, it puts an icon in the dock. If you use that app often, right click the icon in the dock and select Keep In Dock.
5. Renaming files, folders, or hard drives… click on the name, wait a second or two and click again… it will change to selected text and you can type a new name.
6. Use the Command key. The icon on the key is a reverse box. Command Q quits an app. Command C copies text. Command V pastes. Command X deletes selected text.
7. top right hand corner is the Spotlight. It is a very efficient index/search function. Use it to find files, folders, emails etc.
8. If an app freezes, use Command Option and ESC to delete the process
9. Macs will browse a Windows computer out of the box. For a windows computer to browse the Mac, you must set up the mac to allow it.
Here is how to setup the mac so a pc can browse it.

10. the mouse roller button is the Dashboard. It is an alternate window of widgets such as calculator, postal tracking, time, date, weather, news feeds and even a few games etc. You can go to apple.com and download them for free.
Good Luck
