All the Mac nay-sayers have obviously never used a Mac.
I think you should definitely get a Mac and here’s why…. yes, they are more pricey, but they will last you MUCH longer than a PC will… why? Because OSX is actually written to optimize your system resources and not be a bloated turd like Windows. True story, my 7 year old Mac out performs my wife’s 1 year old Dell for this very reason. Every application she uses on a daily basis, MS Office in particular, runs circles on my Mac around her Dell that can’t even keep up.
And yes, they are more pricey, but here’s what you get for the added cost:
- the most stable operating system on the market. OSX is built on top of UNIX which is what is used to run all government and military servers and any persons or corporations who have a lot of data that has to be online and well protected 24/7.
- you won’t have to worry about viruses. My 7 year old PowerMac has not had one single virus, no spyware, no malware, and I’ve never had to purchase any extraneous applications to be running constantly in the background eating up system resources to protect me from them.
- customer service. I’ve only had one hardware failure on my 7 year old PowerMac and it happened in the 6th year I had it… Apple fixed it for free! Try getting that level of service out of any other maker out of warranty. Heck a day after your warranty’s up they’ll tell you to piss off. I know! I used to work for one of the biggest names in PCs today.
Don’t let anyone tell you that a Mac is useless. The day after I got my PowerMac I sold all of my PCs because everything I did on my PCs could be done on my new Mac and MUCH quicker. There’s a bit of a learning curve in switching systems but it doesn’t take long to get used to it.
OSX is the most user friendly and intuitive system around, some say it’s just "enhanced graphics" or "pretty" or whatever… what they don’t realize is when Apple sets out to create a product, their main goal is to create a work of art. They want to create something beautiful. Not just in aesthetics but in ease of use. They are all about the customer experience, and this is evident right down to their packaging! You don’t see their products boxed in a boring brown cardboard box…. heck no! What’s exciting about that?
Fact of the matter… they just work. Like I said… 7 years, no system crashes. When all I had were PCs… I couldn’t go 7 days without a system crash. Heck, 7 hours sometimes was a tall order.
One more nugget… several people in my family have their salaries paid by some of the biggest PC makers in the industry…. all of them recently threw out all of their home PCs and replaced them with Macs because they were tired of constantly having to fix random Windows problems. Doesn’t say much about PCs when people who make their money selling the products don’t trust them enough to have them in their own homes… does it?
Yeah, Mircosoft has a somewhat pretty operating system… but fact of the matter is they’re at least 5 years behind in the game… They’re always a late adopter and never an innovator. Apple is always pushing the limits with technology leaving every other maker out there something to aspire to and fall so so so far from attaining.
One more thing on the cost factor….. as I’ve stated, my Mac is now 7 years old… I have never had a PC last me 7 years… I’ve never had a PC last me more than 2 years. So yeah, it was more expensive on the front end… but on the other hand… it’s saved me LOADS more than I would have been spending if I’d have stayed with PCs. And then… you could run all the latest and greatest applications and OS on a 7 year old PC either. Again, that’s because Macs are designed to optimize your system resources, even when they are 7 years old, and not be a bloated turd that absolutely must have the biggest and baddest processors available to be able to operate at a speed comparable to a computer almost 10 years older than it.
Get a Mac. You’ll be so happy that you did.
PC PC PC PC mac are overpriced PC more practical
hell, pc since you are going the cheap way you must not be loaded ritht so pc used or refurbished. check out $200 hp small form on tigerdirect. got a couple of those and no problemo.
PC of course would be better for you
No need to spend your money for such a useless system
matter of personal choice, and what you can afford. I have always used microsoft but thats me.
pc
they’re better on price and you have more software choices
if its for simple tasks chatting, word processing, listening to music… any pc/mac would do
mac is for the people dazzled my simple graphics innovation
pc(vista) too can provide stunning graphics
pc can game while mac is meh.
macs are simpler, they build all their own hardware, so its tightly intergrated, but you lose the customability. windows you have to scavenger hunt for drivers and crap
and macs generally cost more than a pc
If you want to play games, you can’t get a mac. macs are not compatible with anything.
If you want your computer to just sit there and look purdy, get a mac. If you want to have fun and accomplish something, get a PC. HP or Dell are the two best movies.
Depends what kind of games. Most of the other stuff you can do on a Mac but certain games require Windows. Whatever you do, DON"T GET VISTA.
Definitly PC. They are price accuratly. Mac’s are waay overprice they offer what…12 uploads and barely any tower! There are 2 UPS pluggin overall on a Mac. On a PC, however, there are 3 to 6 pluggins depending on the kind of computer. Hope this helps you with your decision!
I really recommend that you get Microsoft PC, because it will be hard to find games, software, or other things for mac. And mac apple is more confusing. I never saw anyone own a mac for home use. Mostly when I think of apple I think of school, work, and other businesses. But its just an opinion.
Mac, they just work better and don’t get viruses. You can do anything on a mac that you can do on a pc. There is no software that is compatible with pc that isn’t compatible with mac. With the stuff your doing I see no problems anyway. But if you had a game that would only work on windows then you can run windows on your mac just to play that game. And then when your done switch back to OS X.
PC definitely. If you’re only using it for music, browsing, chatting, games, mac is too "powerful" and expensive. Mac is more suitable for multimedia and design purposes.
