Processor speed is measured in Hz (Hertz). 1 GHz (Gigahertz) is equal to 1 billion Hertz. The 2.0 GHz processor will run faster than the 1.8 GHz processor, which will let your laptop work faster. The two main things you want to look at are the processor speed and the amount of RAM. For basic stuff like typing up papers, listening to music, web browsing, etc., both the 1.8 and 2.0 GHz models should be fine as long as you have 1-2 GB of RAM (preferably 2 GB). The processor speed won’t affect how long your laptop lasts, but having a fast processor is always a good thing.
GHZ is the processor speed and is unrelated to longivity. Mine is a 1.6 and suits me fine. The more GHZ the faster you can run programs. Hope this helps

No, not really. Even if GHZ ratings translated linearly (and they don’t) into better performance in CPU bound tasks like video rendering, the faster model would only be about ten percent quicker assuming it’s from the same line. Plus, most people seem to complain about other parts long before the CPU becomes too slow for basic productivity chores. In truth, any CPU found in a modern laptop would be fine, a few 2 pound sub-400$ units excluded. Also, other paarts like the hard disk and video card are bottlenecks. Thus, unless you’re only adding about five percent to the cost of your PC by adding the faster chip, don’t get it for productivity needs and light entertainment.
My laptop is 1.73Ghz, and it’s very fast. 2.0 is a good processor speed. But, it is true that the bigger the number, the faster the processor.
0.2 GHz really isn’t that much of a difference, I’d only pay 20-50 pound more for that. 1.8 GHz is FINE for music, school use and pictures(and I find it no sweat photoediting under a 1.6 GHz processor too).
