What is a good used laptop to buy?

I have a desktop and a big chunky monitor. Everything is running really slow and I think I have a virus. I’m not interested in how to fix the desktop (I’ve already posted that question on here and nothing worked.) I’m looking to buy a used laptop. I have an external hard drive that I’ve downloaded music and pictures to. I’m thinking Ebay – My main concern is getting one with Word and Excel – I assumed both came with Windows XP; which is what I’m running on my desktop now. When it says it comes with XP – does that mean it comes with Word and Excel also? What is a good brand and specs to be looking for?

Recommended specs for a used laptop, I’d start with a 1Ghz minimum processor speed, 512MB ram, and a CD/DVD burner. At least a 30 or 40 Gb hard drive would be a recommendation.
Windows XP does not come with Word and Excel bundled; instead, you must purchase Microsoft Office. You may be able to purchase a student edition through your college or school if you are a student, or through an online sourcing site for student pricing of Windows XP and Microsoft Office, as well as many other programs.
I might recommend looking through your local craigslist.com section before migrating to ebay, as you may be able to find a local seller of a decent laptop in your area, for a good price.
