It’s not really anything to do with Mac vs. PC. Processor speed is processor speed. If you have tried a PC with 1.3GHz and it seemed fine, so will an iBook G4 1.3GHz. The other factor for speed is RAM. If you want to run OS 10.2 and not need to open big photos with Photoshop while at the same time running several other applications, you can get by with 512MB of RAM. If you want to run OS 10.4 and need to open big photos with Photoshop while also running several other applications, you will probably need at least 1GB of RAM.
Bear in mind, G4 and G3 Mac laptops (iBook, PowerBook) cannot run Windows without Virtual PC.
Take a look at the link below to compare different MacBooks, iBooks, and PowerBooks.
If you’re looking for fast, you should probably avoid Apples, especially older ones.
2GB Ram and a Dual Core processor 2.0 or faster. Don’t go under 1GB RAM. . . be sure you can Upgrade the Ram. At $50 / GB RAM is a great price these days. What is your Budget for the laptop?
