Buy a Mac, get a PC free. Sort of.
If you buy an Apple laptop – for example a MacBook or MacBook Pro – you can partition the Mac so it can start up using either Windows XP or Mac OSX.
And yes, Macs are a bit more expensive, but apart from the cool design and solid construction, Apple has to pay many millions of dollars on developing software for the operating system itself. A cost none of the PC manufacturers have (that nice Mr Gates does that for them) and something that tends to get overlooked in the ‘Macs are overpriced’ arguments.
And note that the ability of a Mac to run Windows isn’t a ‘virtual PC’ environment as before with programs like Parallels – you can run Windows XP (or Vista or whatever) as a native operating system on any Mac with Bootcamp a copy of the Windows OS.
The latest OSX version, 10.5 – Leopard – is for my money the best yet. Especially QuickLook, which any Apple store (or MacHead friend) will be happy to show you. Apparently Snow Leopard (10.6) will have minor tweaks but will concentrate on getting everything running faster.
I’m a Vista fan but I have used both Mac OSX and Windows.
Macbooks are built really well however they are much more expensive then a windows laptop and for their cheapest versions (which are still very expensive) they have very small screens. They start at $1700 for the older model and $2000 for the newer model, Then jumps up to $3000 for the MacBook Pro. But Macs are very clean and easy to use, however many games and programs do not work on Mac.
Windows laptops are much cheaper simply because they have competition, not because they are built poorly. If you are going to get XP then you dont need to get a super fast laptop that Vista requires.
Finally Mac is very different to Windows and will take some getting use to however it is simple and looks good.
I would still go a Windows laptop but if you have to money to spend then I would suggest going and testing out a Mac somewhere and see if you like it.
Both Operating systems have there advantages and disadvantages, test out a Mac then decide, both are fine options
