What’s A good Apple Laptop to purchase on E-bay?

I am looking for a starter Apple for a friend who has never used apple. She is selling her PC and wants to go Mac. With so many considerations wanted to know what is good for around the 0 range on E-bay? Needs to be compatible with Leopard, and we can make ram upgrades later. Is it too risky buying used? She wants something right away. Any good advice would be appreciated.

BdJohn gave you a good answer. If you want an Apple computer then buy it from Apple [they have refurbished at the Apple site]. You can also go to http://www.lowendmac.com for used. New ones are sold at MacMall.com. I bought my there, no sales tax. eBay is full of ripoff artists. I suggest getting a refurbished one from the Apple site or a new one from MacMall. It will last for years.
Yes, it is rather risky to buy a used macbook on ebay. Especially for a good one within your price range, if you get a macbook for around $500 it is either extremely out of date or broken. Or both.
