Don’t buy used laptops. That is just plain stupid. You can’t tell how much missuses the previous owner has put into it.

With laptop prices being so low these days, I would not advice anyone to get one used. You can get a decent laptop with 512mb 80gigs and wifi for well under 1000usd and that will come with an original warranty.
If you have to buy second hand, try to find one that is under 8 months old.
look at your local flea market There is some great deals out there
