I have bought at auction on ebay and made some good purchases. Id be wary of machines that old though. Looks like you are getting no dvd burner, and its probably usb 1.0, which is a really outdated interface and makes usb peripherals really slow. 40gb is pretty under the odds too.

just make sure the seller has plenty of positive feedback so that you know that they are doing the right thing by people who buy from them.

Also check the warrenty that is offered - 3-6 months minimum.

Check the postage arrangements if anything goes wrong with the machine. It could cost you $30 to ship it back to the seller for repairs if it needs them.

something like this is only $170 more; its new, has more ram, bigger hard disk, faster processor, dvd burner, usb 2, etc. Also has full warranty so you are covered for a longer period if something goes wrong.

Ebay huh? I think unless you want to constantly upgrade you might think about saving a little more bread and buying a bit newer laptop try to get the most processing power and hard drive for the buck as for ram its cheap and easy to upgrade try looking at the core duo processor family with at least a 250gb hard drive

For me, I will not buy used computer, because I don't how the past owner used it, besides you can buy $300 worth laptop in the store right now and they are much better too.

Thats what I think.., but still its your personal choice.
